Over 800 people were arrested in the national capital last year on charges of peddling and possession of drugs, which lead to a recovery of a huge amount of narcotics, including 60 kg of heroin and 950 kg of ganja.
According to the Delhi Police's crime data for 2008, a total of 806 people were arrested across the capital for indulging in drug peddling.
Ganja was top on the list of recoveries with 944.873 kg followed by 396.51 kg of poppy straws and 129.071 kg of charas, the data said adding 34.2 kg of opium was also seized from drug peddlers.
The statistics showed that 59.829 kg of heroin was recovered by Delhi Police with a whopping 39.392 kg being seized by the Narcotics Branch of Delhi Police alone. The Branch had arrested 99 men and 27 women in 100 cases of heroin seizure in the city last year.
The Narcotics Branch registered a total of 118 drug peddling cases in 2008 in which they arrested 132 men and 32 women.
There were seven cases of seizure of charas (69.8 kg), three each cases of recovery of cocaine (0.028 kg) and opium (31.2 kg), a Narcotics Branch official said.
While a total of 14 people were arrested for possessing charas, four were arrested in connection with cocaine trade.
