Believe it or not, the lucky among the economically weaker sections can now afford to own a house in the Indian capital for just Rs 100,000.
The Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corp (DSIIDC) is to build homes costing Rs 2 lakh each for the weaker sections, but buyers will pay only half the amount, DSIIDC managing director Manoj Parida says.
A total of 50,000 such houses will come in Khanjhwala (over 100 acres), Bawana (30 acres), Samaspur (51 acres) and Neb Sarai areas (5 acres).
While Khanjwala and Bawana will account for 20,000 houses, Samaspur will have 7,656 and Neb Sarai 700 houses, DSIIDC quoted Parida as saying in a statement.
Spread over 28 square metres, each house will command a subsidy of Rs 1 lakh, to be borne by the Delhi government, with the beneficiaries left to pay only Rs 1 lakh and be the proud owner of a flat in the national capital, said Parida.
He said that DSIIDC was constructing these flats on behalf of the Delhi government and the scheme would be open to slum evacuees and economically weaker sections.
According to Parida, the low pricing will not come at the cost of quality.
The cost of the houses will be kept to the minimum through technological innovations. The standard specifications will include ground plus three stories, glazed tiles in toilet, Kota stone, single stack plumbing and conduit copper wiring.
The areas where the houses will come up will be provided with parks, school, dispensary, security grills, boundary wall, milk and vegetable booths, crèche, roads and pathways.
DSIIDC is also engaged in construction of other quality houses in Delhi, the company said.
It has earmarked an area of 23.55 acres of residential pocket in Sector 3 of Bawana Industrial Complex where 3,164 dwelling units have been constructed and allotted as part of the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Scheme.
DSIIDC is further constructing 4,348 more low-cost houses for workers.
Parida said the provisional price of each flat varies from Rs 130,000 to Rs 315,000, depending on the type and rooms. The plinth area in square metres will range from 31.60 (for Type I flats) to 39.74 for Type III flats.
A total of 314 Type I flats will be located in Bawana, 28 in Narela and 408 in Bhorgarh. Narela will also have 480 Type IA flats and Bawana Type II flats.
The Type III flats will come up in Bhorgarh (864), Bawana (1,184) and Narela (1,184).
"The entire area will be a combination of functionality, aesthetics and comfort," said Parida.
