A group of tonga owners today staged a demonstration at Asaf Ali Road to protest the phasing out of the horse-drawn carriages from the Walled City and demolition of a horse stable. The slow-moving old-world carriages are being phased out by Municipal Corporation of Delhi(MCD). The civic body had earlier unveiled a Rs 35 lakh rehabilitation scheme for the owners.

On Saturday, the MCD removed the old horse stable at Asaf Ali Road. A number of owners led by Matia Mahal MLA Shoaib Iqbal held a demonstration at Turkman Gate to protest the demolition. They demanded that be allowed to run in Old Delhi.
