A Delhi court on Thursday sentenced a Pakistani national to five years and six months in jail for spying as he was found supplying secret information to his handlers in the neighbouring country through courier in 2005.
Additional Sessions Judge Dharmesh Sharma also imposed a fine of Rs 7,000 on Asim Waseem alias Sumaar Ali after holding him guilty under the Official Secrets Act, the IPC and the Foreigners Act.
Ali, 29, was arrested by Delhi police's Special Cell sleuths on September 15, 2005, following a tip off that a man from Pakistan's Rahimyar Khan district had entered the country and was spying on the directions of the Inter-Service Intelligence.
The police found that the accused was passing classified and secret details about the deployment and movement of army through courier. They also recovered two driving licences from Ali issued in Agra and Hissar.
