Parking in Sarojini market may get dearer
Parking charges in Sarojini Market may double in the coming few weeks with the Bhurelal Committee directing the New Delhi Municipal Council to do the same, HT reports.
Parking charges in Sarojini Market may double in the coming few weeks with the Bhurelal Committee directing the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) to do the same. At present, the charges are Rs. 10 for four hours.
But the civic body has to get the proposed hike in surface parking charges approved by council and that may take a few weeks.
The hike in surface parking charges is expected to encourage the use of the multi-level parking in the market that is not being favoured by shoppers at present.
It charges Rs. 10 per hour. The committee directions came following a meeting with the stakeholders -the traders, DLF and the NDMC - on Saturday.
According to sources, traders may be given the parking lot at D Avenue to park their cars as they have 'practical' problems in parking their cars at the multi-level parking.
The next meeting to work out the intricacies of the handover will be held on Wednesday.
A new traffic plan will also be planned in the meeting as the stakeholders are unhappy with the present plan that has blocked most roads leading to the market.
"Traders cannot park cars at the multi-level parking as they shut shop and leave the market at around the same time each night. It leads to over crowding at the multi-level parking with 400 traders showing up at the same time to get their cars," said Ashok Randhawa, president of Sarojini Nagar mini market association.
