The historic central hall of Parliament has been closed for renovation to present a new look when US President Barack Obama addresses Indian MPs on the evening of November 8.
The fresh look is part of the sprucing up of the Parliament house complex on the directions of Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar.
One of the unique features of the central hall — the ancient pedestal fans that are mounted on tables and do not hang from the ceiling — is being given a fresh coat of paint, said an official.
The central dome of the hall, which is 80 feet in diameter, will don the colour blue and additional orange colour lights are being installed across the hall to light up the evening.
“It is an opportunity to showcase the sanctum sanctorum of our democracy to the world. We are working towards that and want to complete the work by October-end,” said Lok Sabha secretary general T.K. Viswanathan.
