The Congress on Sunday reminded Anna Hazare and his team about Parliament's supremacy in making laws for the country, but the BJP blamed the ruling party for its non-seriousness on the Lokpal issue.
"Anna ji has a right to fast. However, what kind of law will be framed, how it will be framed are issues which will be decided by parliament, and not by an individual," said Congress spokesperson Rashid Alvi.
Alvi said the government was committed to bringing a strong Lokpal for which it was trying to create a consensus. Minister of State for human resources development and Muslim League leader, E Ahamed said the government was not perturbed by any protests.
“If you want to make a small issue a bigger issue, you can have it. But so far the UPA government is concerned, we are not perturbed.... Parliament is supreme.... its importance cannot be reduced,” Ahamed said.
The BJP justified Hazare's action saying protest was needed since the Centre was not serious about the Lokpal bill.
“The government is not serious and honest about Lokpal bill. So, whether it is Anna or Ramdev, they feel the need to fast again,” BJP leader Balbir Punj said.
BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha said he was a strong supporter of Hazare for his fight against corruption. "I am a staunch supporter and fan of Hazare….I had even offered to quit my Lok Sabha seat if it helps in anyway the ongoing campaign for a strong Lokpal Bill," Sinha said.
