A day after the state Election Commission declared the election schedule for MCD, the Congress and the BJP have got down to the basics - selecting candidates for the elections.
While the Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) has offered open invitation to the party cadre to contest, the Delhi state BJP leadership has already shortlisted four to five probable candidates for each ward.
"We have asked the aspirants to fill up the form and give us details such as their association with the party, their achievements and the result of their previous elections," DPCC president Jai Prakash Aggarwal said.
"We will look into their backgrounds, winnability factor and their behaviour before giving the ticket," Aggarwal added.
BJP leaders said they have also started the process and will soon come out with the final list.
"The candidate should be innovative and should be able to run around for his people. We want educated candidates. We will give professionals an opportunity to contest," Delhi BJP president Vijender Gupta said.
While filing of nomination will start from March 19, voting will take place on April 15.
