A 32-year-old transporter was allegedly shot at by his business partner after a heated argument in central Delhi's Patel Nagar on Friday afternoon, police said.
"The incident was reported from the office of a private company, Shriram Info Vision, in west Patel Nagar at 3pm. The victim has been identified as Uttam Singh. His brother-in-law is a Delhi Police officer," said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.
Vivek Kishore, deputy commissioner of police (central), was unavailable for comment despite repeated attempts.
"The company is owned by one Anil Chillar and Singh, a resident of Ghaziabad's Modi Nagar, provides cabs to Chillar's company. Initial inquiry has revealed that the incident was triggered by a financial dispute between the two," the police officer said.
Police said there was a written contract to provide 10 cabs to Chillar's company from Singh's fleet.
"Singh had gone to claim a pending payment from Chillar, accompanied by his associates Mukesh and Sunil, when a heated argument broke out between him and Chillar. Things got out of hand and Singh was shot in his right shoulder during the scuffle," said the officer.
The victim was rushed to Gangaram Hospital, where his condition is stated to be stable. However, the police are yet to register a case since doctors declared Singh unfit to give a statement.
"Chillar has been detained and the weapon of offence recovered. We are now waiting for Singh's statement," the officer added.
