Home minister P Chidambaram on Friday faced questions - not with a straight bat, though - from the media on the report that he had offered to resign before his truce with finance minister Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday.
He said, "Frankly, I have a very short memory".
At a media briefing to present the home ministry's report for September - a monthly affair - the reporter commented the evasive move could lead to more speculation.
Chidambaram joked: "You have to fill your pages, go ahead".
"How many times have you offered to resign?" was another missile from the press benches.
The minister ducked again: "Along with a short memory, I am also poor in counting."
"At least more than once?" another scribe tried again.
"Actually, I am learning numeracy," pat came the answer.
"So you are not denying that you had offered to resign?"
"There is nothing in the question that concerns the home ministry. The answer is no answer," was the minister's parting shot.
