People found feeding monkeys in Delhi to be fined

delhi Updated: Jun 30, 2007 16:01 IST

Grappling with a monkey menace in the capital, Delhi government on Saturday issued a public notice, saying people found feeding monkeys will be fined.

The public notice, issued by the Department of Forests and Wildlife, said civic bodies MCD and NDMC will fine people found feeding monkeys in public areas.

The notice is in pursuance of a Delhi High Court order that no person shall feed monkeys in public areas, more particularly in Lutyen's Delhi areas like Rashtrapati Bhawan, Connaught Place and Central Secretariat, and Qutab area.

Meanwhile, the government has made arrangements for collecting food from people and transporting it to the Asola Bhatti Mines Area, where the monkeys are being relocated.

Food collection centres will be set up at Hanuman Mandir, Connaught Place; Hanuman Mandir, Yamuna Bazar; and SP Marg, where persons or institutions interested in feeding monkeys can deposit the food.

The food material collected at these centres will be transported to the Asola Bhatti Mines area on the same day for feeding the monkeys released there.
