The phoney spiritual guru—Shiv Murat Dwivedi (39)—arrested for allegedly running a sex racket had political ambitions, police said.

Dwivedi, alias Icchadhari Sant Swami Bhimanand Ji Maharaj Chitrakoot, was booked under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act on Sunday. “We have invoked Section 3 of MCOCA against him. There are more than five cases and two chargesheets against him,” said H.G.S. Dhaliwal, DCP (South).

“He has political ambitions. He did not want to join politics now but was gaining ground steadily. He wanted to use his followers as his vote bank,” said a senior police officer.

Police said they are awaiting reports from the district administration officials in UP and Madhya Pradesh to know the number of properties he owns.

“These will be used as evidence against Dwivedi. He bought these with the money earned from the prostitution racket,” said the officer.
