A 40-year-old man, who disguised himself as a professional photographer and attended parties only to steal cameras, mobile phones and other valuables from those attending the event(s), was arrested, police said on Sunday.

Anil Kapoor, a resident of Faridabad, had admitted to having been involved in at least 35 such cases and managed to get his hands on cameras and valuables worth at least Rs 7 lakh in the process, said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).

"His arrest came following investigations into complaints of cameras and other valuables disappearing from parties at almost all five star hotels, farmhouses and late night weddings that took place recently," DCP Sharma said.

Police said intelligence was developed and pictures of Kapoor procured from all the parties where the thefts had been reported from.

According to sources, the investigating team got lucky when a journalist, a resident of southeast Delhi's Lajpat Nagar, managed to click him at her brother's party.
