Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday spoke to US President Barack Obama and congratulated him on winning the Nobel Peace prize.

During the conversation that lasted three to four minutes, Singh said he looked forward to meeting Obama during his visit to the US next month, a PMO spokesman said.

Earlier, in a letter to Obama, the Prime Minister had said on Friday that the citation for the Nobel prize "admirably reflects your personal qualities of leadership and the new perspectives that you have brought to bear on the conduct of relations between different countries and cultures, and on some of the most burning issues of our times".
