The Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) has decided to provide information regarding correspondence between Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and former telecom minister A Raja related to the 2G spectrum scam.
In a statement, the PMO said as the Central Information Commission (CIC), after consulting the applicant, had reframed the request as requiring disclosure of the aforementioned correspondence and copies of the same would be made available to the applicant in this case.
The CIC on Tuesday had asked the public information officer of the PMO to provide file notings and correspondence between the PM and Raja to the applicant after reframing questions of the RTI application by Ashwini Kumar, a resident of Sri Ganganagar district of Rajasthan.
He had sought information from the PMO regarding the basis on which Raja was retained in the Cabinet despite the Comptroller and Auditor General of India and the Central Bureau of Investigation clearly pointing out irregularities in allocation of 2G spectrum.
Information commissioner Shailesh Gandhi widened the scope of the RTI plea, asking the PIO to provide information regarding charges of corruption against Raja and copies of file notings or correspondence of the PMO in this regard.
