A day after a 50-year-old man was found brutally murdered at his house in Nizamuddin, the southeast district police have arrested his son for the murder and wife for destruction of evidence. The arrested persons have been identified as Danish, 24, and his mother Naima, 45.
Police said Mohammad Sadruddin was hacked to death by his elder son Danish, who was annoyed with Sadruddin's habit of suspecting his mother's character and torturing her, both physically and mentally.
"On Tuesday afternoon, Danish slit his father's throat with a butcher's knife after a fight broke out between them over the issue of Sadruddin passing filthy remarks at his mother. She had gone to visit a doctor's clinic with her daughter," said Ajay Chaudhry, additional CP (southeast), adding Sadruddin was a smack addict for the last 20 years and was suffering from Tuberculosis (TB) and respiratory disease.
Police said Naima's involvement relates to her helping Danish flee and wiping the blood stains. "Instead of cooperating with the investigators in the case, Naima mislead them by alleging that her husband was murdered by his brother Zahiruddin over an old property dispute. But our investigations revealed that it was Naima who had called Zahiruddin at her house by informing him about the incident," the investigating officer said.
The needle of suspicion, the officer said, pointed towards the mother-son duo because there were discrepancies in Naima's statements and the fact that Danish was missing after the incident and his phone was also switched off.
Danish, who killed his father in a fit of rage, was arrested from Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station while he was trying to leave the city. Police have recovered the knife Danish used to kill his father.
