Water balloon slingers beware; you might end up in jail if next time you throw those watery grenades at unsuspecting passers by.

The Delhi Police for the next few days till Holi would be on the prowl for all those overzealous revellers who love to create ruckus in the name of festival.

The police have issued a Section 144 notice to prevent people from creating problems during the festival.

“There are indications of indiscriminate throwing of coloured water, rubber balloons containing coloured water;

and riotous, indecent and disorderly behaviour by some

sections of Holi revellers during the next few days till Holi,” said a senior police officer on condition of anonymity as he is not authorised to speak to the media.

“Such acts are likely to cause annoyance to the public, danger to human life and safety; and there is likelihood of the

disturbance of public tranquillity or a riot or an affray,” the officer added, saying, “We are ordering section 144 during the next few days.”

The police said that special care is being taken to ensure that people do not indulge in pushing, hustling or obstructing any passers by on any street.

“Throwing coloured water, rubber balloons or any other liquid through any means or applying any colour on the face or any other part of the body of any unwilling person would be taken as the breach of the order and such people would be punished,” added the officer.

This order shall come into force with effect from March 17 and shall remain in force till March 26 for a period of 10 days. Any person contravening this order shall be punishable under Section 188 of the Indian Penal Code.
