The special cell of Delhi Police on Tuesday arrested a 55-year-old interstate firearms supplier allegedly involved in the illegal business of manufacturing and supplying country-made firearms for more than 30 years.

The arrested firearms supplier has been identified as Om Singh alias Beer Singh, a native of Meerut, Uttar Pradesh.

With Singh’s arrest, a senior police officer said, the Delhi Police have unearthed an illegal firearms manufacturing factory being run in Meerut since 1980. The police have recovered several arms and weapon-manufacturing tools from the factory.

“Since 1980, Singh has supplied thousands of illegal arms to various criminals in Delhi, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Punjab,” said the official.

“Initially, Singh used to supply arms to local criminals in Meerut and Hapur. Later, he extended his business to Delhi, Haryana and Punjab. During this period, Singh’s illegal factory was busted thrice, but every time after the accused was released from the jail, he continued with his business,” the official added.

Singh used to charge Rs. 2,000 for a country-made pistol for delivering out of his town. For supplying a weapon in his native, the accused used to charge Rs. 1,500.
