The Delhi Police have provided security to Amit Sherawat, the cab driver, who intimated them about the abduction of a 24-year-old pub assistant from the Ghitorni area late last week.

“Since he is one of the witnesses of the said abduction bid which was finally foiled, but was blatant enough, we have provided him a minor security cover composed of two constables,” said a senior police officer requesting anonymity.

On the night of July 24, five drunken men, later identified as Kartar Singh, Pramod Singh, Ravish Nagar, Deepak and Arun first had an altercation with the said pub assistant after they were denied entry to a pub in an upscale Gurgaon mall before they waylaid and abducted her from near the Ghitorni Metro station area.

According to police, the gang had assaulted their victim before abducting her and attempted to flee to Faridabad from an unconventional route - but were eventually caught.

Police had rewarded Sherawat with a cash award of R5,000 for his presence of mind during the said incident when he overcame his fear of the gang’s threats and inducements of getting quick cash for not informing the police about the incident.

While the police have nabbed four of the drunken members of the gang, Arun continues to be on the run.
