Delhi Police are all geared up for the Lok Sabha election in the Capital on Thursday.
From keeping an intensive check on borders to cracking down on the supply of illicit liquor, the police have taken all measures to tackle any situation. “There will be one armed police personnel at every police booth and three Quick Reaction Teams will be provided for each police station across the Capital. In all, there will be around 56,000 personnel manning the streets,” said a senior police officer.
Special checks are being carried out at all borders and Delhi Police is working closely with all neighbouring state forces. Joint patrols were carried out with Ghaziabad, Noida, Gurgaon, Faridabad and Sonepat police at 42 border points.
Counter-terror commandos will be posted at 14 sensitive points identified by Delhi Police to prevent any terror attacks. There are around 293 such booths.
The police have also marked a few hypersensitive polling booths in Northeast Delhi, Batla House and Chandni Chowk. Personnel will be heavily deployed at such areas to act as a deterrent to anti-social activities. As many as 1,821 people are in preventive detention.
“All senior officers including assistant commissioners, deputy commissioners and joint commissioners will patrol their respective areas with mobile forces,” said a senior police officer.
The police have rounded up all the known anti-socials and are also keeping a special watch on local gyms and akharas (wrestling rings).
Delhi Police have taken strict action against violators of the model code of conduct, after Lok Sabha polls were announced.
They had even cracked down on dholwalas (drummers), as Delhi laws prohibit them from accompanying politicians on campaigns.
Till date, around 8,755 vehicles and nine loudspeakers have been seized for violating the code of conduct.
