An arrest warrant has been issued against Meera Chopra, a model, for her alleged involvement in Ruchi Bhuttan's death.
Angry over her husband's alleged illicit relationship with the model, Ruchi committed suicide on July 5. Meera is cousin of Bollywood actor Priyanka Chopra.
The warrant was issued after Meera failed to join the investigation, although the police summoned her twice.
“We will examine her role in the case. We can't comment on the case now as investigation is on. We will be able to tell something once things get a little clearer,” said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP, east Gurgaon.
Ruchi's husband Sumit Bhuttan is in police custody. Ruchi's family submitted a diary written by her in 2007, in which she mentioned being tortured by Sumit. The diary also mentioned his relationship with Meera. Ruchi's family members accuse the husband of killing her.
“A case has been filed against Sumit and Meera under Sections 304B and 120B of the IPC on the basis of the family's complaint," said Dayal.
Earlier, Ruchi's mother Sudha Gupta had written to Haryana director general of police RS Dalal, seeking intervention in the case. She asked him to preserve her daughter's viscera samples.
Sudha said the police did not cooperate in the initial stage and refused to help her in pursuing the matter.
She also accused the investigation officer and station house officer of negligence.
