In the line of fire even after claiming to have solved the Dhaula Kuan rape case in which a 30-year-old BPO employee was abducted and gangraped, the police are hoping that the five accused will be locked away for life.
Confident after the victim identified two of the five accused during a test identification parade (TIP), sources said the police are likely to approach a fast-track court to decide the matter.
“The victim has recognised both Shamshad and Usman during the TIP conducted on Saturday. There is not even the slightest possibility of bail for the accused,” said a senior Delhi Police officer.
The police said a similar fate awaited Shahid alias Chota Billi, who surrendered at the Ballabhgarh court in a cow-slaughter case and has now been arrested by the Delhi Police for his involvement in the rape. Another accused, Iqbal alias Bada Billi, was arrested on Saturday night.
“Their TIP will be conducted on Monday, and we are sure that the victim will be able to identify them as well,” he said. The police, however, are yet to arrest Kamruddin alias Mobile, the fifth accused.
“We are conducting raids at various locations where Mobile is suspected to be hiding. He will be captured soon. We are confident the fast-track court will ... sentence the accused to life imprisonment,” he said.
Confirming the Delhi Police’s wish of approaching a fast-track court, Delhi Police commissioner BK Gupta said: “We want to get the case decided as soon as possible and will appeal that it be heard by a fast-track court.”
