The police is yet to ascertain the cause of death of an eight-year-old girl child who was found dead and semi-clad in torn clothes on Monday morning.
The girl had been missing from her central Delhi residence since January 3.
Although sources said nothing could be said with certainty till her autopsy report was in, it is suspected to be a case of rape and murder.
"The child had gone missing from her residence in Prem Nagar on January 3 and we had registered a case of kidnapping on the same day.
A few construction workers found her body at a construction site located some distance from her house on Monday morning," said a senior police officer.
The police said that workers discovered the decaying body of the victim, when they attempted to ascertain the source of a foul smell emanating from underneath construction debris.
"Her father works at a printing press and told us that his daughter had gone out to play on the afternoon of January 3. He approached the police when she didn't return till evening," the officer said.
According to the police, the decaying body was rushed to an adjacent government hospital and doctors are yet to ascertain the exact cause of death.
"There are no apparent injury marks on her body and we are yet to get the postmortem report. Sexual assault has not yet been ascertained," the officer said.
Sources said two juveniles, whom her family suspected to be behind the crime, were being questioned about their involvement in the crime but were not under detention.
