Policing in and around Delhi University is all set for a makeover by this weekend with authorities planning to appoint a woman Station House Officer, deploy more women on beat patrol and set up help desks.
The initiatives have been taken by the Delhi Police to ensure "more visibility" on the campus where the students, especially girls, can easily approach its personnel with their complaints.
Maurice Nagar Police Station, which has the university campus under its jurisdiction, will have a woman Station House Officer and there will be a vigorous beat patrolling, City Police Commissioner B K Gupta said.
Besides this, Gupta said, six PCR vans will be deployed and four help desks and three women booths will be set up.
"We need to instill a sense of confidence among people. The presence of women will have a positive effect," Gupta said. These measures will be put in place within two-three days, he said.
The help desks will be set up at spots near Kirori Mal College, Art Faculty, Miranda House and Central Institute of Education while the women desks will be at Kirorimal College, Rugby Stadium and Art Faculty.
The whole police station area is divided into three divisions and two PCR vans each will patrol one division.
