As corruption has taken centre stage of national politics, Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi announced from the Youth Congress platform on Monday that only idealistic young men could build a clean political system.
Pointing out that the "biggest corruption" prevails in the country’s political system, he said, "It needs to be cleansed and changed to fight corruption."
His comment at the first ever national convention of more than 8,000 elected office bearers of the Youth Congress also came at a time when the UPA is battling a series of scams.
Gandhi also exhorted the newly-elected Youth Congress functionaries to reach out to the poor. "Only if the poor get good life, the country can progress."
Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and PM Manmohan Singh are also expected to attend the meet, 'Buniyad (foundation)', in the Capital on Tuesday.
