The BJP appears to be taking no chances ahead of next month’s civic elections.
Fearing the wrath of hopefuls whose names have been omitted from the list of its candidates, the BJP on Sunday removed all potted plants from its Pandit Pant Marg office.
“We have seen angry mobs venting their anger by breaking potted plants and vases. So, we have removed them in advance,” said a BJP office bearer. He, however, felt that glass panes might end up bearing the brunt of the frustration.
The Congress, which released its list of candidates on Sunday, chose to keep the gates of its party office locked over fears of violence triggered by angry protesters. Not many party activists, however, were there.
The BJP office, too, was mostly deserted with most of the action taking place at Venkaiah Naidu’s house on Aurangzeb Road where leaders deliberated on the final list.
On the potted plants in the BJP office, a party worker said, “Potted plants can be removed, but it is office bearers like us who usually get beaten up.”
