Power cuts in city after fuel shortage at Dadri

Shortage of fuel at Dadri Plant in Uttar Pradesh caused power failure at several locations in Delhi beginning Wednesday morning. In some localities, power cuts were reported for upto two hours. Areas in east, south and north Delhi bore the maximum brunt.

An official of private power distribution company BSES said that the fuel shortage in Dadri occurred after a coal wagon derailed near Lucknow.

The city gets around 1,500 MW power daily from the Dadri plant. An official said shortage of coal forced NTPC to shut two units — with a combined capacity of around 410 MW of power — at Dadri I station. Another unit with a capacity of 490 MW, was closed at Dadri II generating station.
