President Pratibha Patil on Tuesday termed rising prices an issue of "serious concern" and called for a "second Green Revolution" to ensure food security.
"Growing inflation, specially in food items, is an issue of serious concern," Patil said in her address to the nation on the eve of Republic Day. “A second green revolution is needed to address the issue of food security,” she said.
President Patil said that the next green revolution should be focused on the rain fed agricultural areas. “The last green revolution was focused on irrigation fed areas, the second green revolution should focus on rain fed areas,” she said.
The President also stressed on the need for mechanisation of agriculture.
