In what looks like a case of personal enmity, a 45-year-old property dealer was shot as many as eight times by unknown assailants near his house while he was taking a morning walk in Narela in Outer Delhi on Wednesday.
The police said that the assailants, after shooting the property dealer, fled towards Haryana from the Delhi border. They added that the deceased might have been killed because of rivalry in property dealing business.
The incident took place at 6 am when Jasbir Singh was on his way towards Sector 9 in Narela for his daily morning walk.
"As he reached near Sector A-5, two motorcycle borne youth approached him and started talking to him. He reportedly had some altercation with the assailants and then both took out pistols from their pockets and started firing at Singh," said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity.
The accused reportedly fired eight rounds that hit Singh in his head and abdomen. Hearing the gunshots, locals rushed to the spot and informed the police but by then, the assailants had fled from there.
"An instant wireless message was flashed to nab them but they apparently fled towards Haryana as the border is close to Narela," added the officer.
Police said Singh ran a property dealing and finance business from Narela and used to go for a walk everyday. He also reportedly has some criminal cases registered against him.
Preliminary investigations suggest that he had a tiff with somebody over some financed money that he had to repay. However, police is also investigating other angles in the case.
His body was sent for postmortem.
