A 40-year-old property dealer was shot at, allegedly by two bike-borne assailants who attempted to rob him of his bag in east Delhi’s Vishwas Nagar area on Sunday morning.
The incident took place around 9am when the victim, Manish Goyal, was walking towards his office from his house. According to police, the robbers fired three bullets at Goyal, of which one hit him in his back.
Goyal, a senior police officer said, was carrying a bag containing some cash and property-related documents with him when he was waylaid by the robbers at Bheem Gali.
“The robbers asked Goyal to part with his bag. He resisted after which the robbers fired three bullets at him. In order to save his life, Goyal ran inside a nearby lassi shop, but was chased inside the shop by the robbers. The assailants fled only when some local residents rushed to save Goyal,” said the senior officer.
According to the officer, Goyal, who collapsed inside the shop, was immediately rushed to Hedgewar Hospital from where he was later taken to Max Hospital. The condition of Goyal is stated to be critical, the officer added.
Police said Goyal carried a huge amount of cash with him to office from home every day. “Prima facie it looks that the robbers were tipped off about his routine. We have registered a case and are looking for the robbers,” the officer said.
