A 26-year-old graduate, who police claim is a “psycho stalker”, has been arrested by the north district police for allegedly using obscene text messages and telephone calls to harass a Ph.D scholar of Delhi University for the past two years.

The arrested stalker has been identified as Nadeem Mirza, a graduate from Jamia Millia Islamia University, who ran a mobile repair shop from his house in Turkman Gate area, said police.

Sindhu Pillai, deputy commissioner of police (north), said Mirza was arrested following investigation into a complaint lodged by the victim’s brother at the Civil Lines police station on June 7.

“We have arrested Mirza, a psycho stalker, who used to send sleazy, indecent and obscene text messages to the victim on her mobile phone from different numbers for over two years. He also used to threaten the victim’s brother by saying that he and his family would face dire consequences if he reported the matter to police,” said Pillai, adding that due to this, the girl’s family had shifted her residence to Shahibabad in UP.
