PWD’s new pedestrian overbridges to have lifts

delhi Updated: Sep 08, 2009 01:30 IST

The publics work department (PWD) has tried its utmost to make foot overbridges (FOBs) popular.

It has tried to make them accessible for the differently-abled by introducing ramps.

It has tried to add a dash of extra convenience by introducing escalators.

The civic body has even tried altering their designs to attract users.

But Delhiites continue to play hard to get.

Now, for the first time, the civic body is installing lifts in some of the upcoming projects in West and Northwest Delhi and keeping its fingers crossed.

According to B.P. Kukrety, chief engineer (maintenance), Zone 3, the three upcoming FOBs — on Ring Road at Shalimar Bagh, at Britannia Chowk and at Moti Nagar T-point — will offer the provision for lifts apart from the usual staircases.
