The fifth Open Day held at the SP Jain Centre in South Campus on Wednesday left counsellors slightly baffled as students posed questions that they weren’t prepared to answer.

“Many youngsters asked us to rank the colleges for them. Bright students who were pretty sure that they would be absorbed into any college posed such queries. We were a little baffled initially but then we asked them to compare infrastructure and past years’ results to judge this,” said Deputy Dean Students’ Welfare Gurpreet Singh Tuteja.

This Open House session was inaugurated by Deepak Pental, Vice-Chancellor, University of Delhi. While addressing the admission seekers and their parents, he stressed that students should first give priority to the course and then decide on the college.

There were quite a few outstation students among the approximately 1,000 applicants who attended the counseling session. Meher Puri from Sherwood College Boarding School-Nainital was one such student. “This is my first time at Delhi University’s Open Day and I found it pretty helpful. I could approach student volunteers and counsellors for any kind of queries including trivial stuff like how one should travel to the North Campus daily,” said Puri, who was present at the event with her grandfather.

The counselling session at SP Jain Centre will continue on May 29 from 10 am to 4 pm.
