A domestic help employed at a builder’s southeast Delhi residence allegedly broke into the main cash locker and decamped with more than R1 crore in cash on Saturday evening.
Ram Kishore (25), a resident of Uttar Pradesh, had been working at Sunil Bedi's house at Block W in Greater Kailash Part I for the last five years.
Police sources said though Kishore was registered with the local police station his verification was pending.
"The incident occurred on Saturday evening when the Bedi family was away at a marriage function in Gurgaon. It was discovered by two other domestic helps employed by the family. They found that an almirah's lock was broken and alerted Bedi around 8 pm," said a senior police officer. The police have registered a case.
"During questioning, the two other domestic helps said Kishore must have broken the lock of the almirah on Saturday evening. They said they saw Kishore with a black bag around 8 pm, nervously stepping out of the house," said the officer.
According to police, the other two domestic helps got suspicious when they asked Kishore where was he going but didn't get a proper answer.
"As soon as Kishore made his exit, the other two went into the master bedroom and found an almirah broken into. We suspect Kishore's involvement in the theft. The family has claimed that Rs 1 crore in cash was kept in the almirah and a case has been accordingly registered at Greater Kailash police station," the officer added.
Forensic evidence has been collected from the scene of crime and a police team has been dispatched to Kishore's village in UP to nab him.
