Radhika Tanwar (20) was a brave girl, who did not want her parents to worry about anything. Even though she was being harassed by her alleged stalker Ram Singh, alias Vijay, she tried to handle things on her own.

Even on March 5 when Vijay followed her till her college, she tried to handle things herself. “He was sitting near her college. When she passed by, he started following her and tried to speak to her. But she turned back and snubbed him,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he was not authorised to speak to the media.

The police said that she tried her best to avoid Vijay without alarming her parents.

“She was very bold and brushed aside these incidents though he was constantly following her,” said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south). The police also believe that he was earlier involved in the murder of his brother in Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. However, no case was ever registered in the matter.

The police said Radhika confided in two of her closest friends who studied with her in the same class in Ram Lal Anand College, South Campus.

Dhaliwal said Vijay regularly used to follow her and even when she returned home from college in the evening, he used to stalk her. “Once he followed her to Green Park in South Delhi. It always troubled him that she never responded. He also did not have the courage to approach her. He became more obsessive. He never spoke to her. He also did not have her phone number,” he said.
