Congress on Saturday said BSP supremo Mayawati's attack on Rahul Gandhi showed that he has occupied the slot of a leader taking the cause of the people and downplayed her threat of withdrawal to the UPA coalition.
"We take it coolly, why should we get excited. She is an important leader of the largest state. We always take her seriously. She is a responsible leader and we don't think she will take any decision unilaterally," AICC media department chairman M Verappa Moily said in New Delhi.
He said the fact that the UP chief minister has transferred the concerned state official showed that there was something wrong in the state administration.
Moily said on Saturday dharna by Rahul at Jhansi and its response showed that he was filling the slot of the leader taking the cause of the people.
Asked whether the Congress-led UPA required the backing of BSP, Moily said, "Mayawati has been supporting us for the last four years. It is not only a question of arithmatic but chemistry also."
