Rahul should ask 'mummy', PM to cut price-rise: BJP

delhi Updated: Sep 25, 2009 22:54 IST

BJP on Friday took a swipe at Rahul Gandhi for spending time with Dalit families in Uttar Pradesh villages, saying he should instead concentrate on convincing his "mummy" Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to check rising prices.

"Rahul Gandhi ka garibo ki jhopri me rehna...jaise karna hai kare, lekin sabse pehle apni mummy aur Manmohan Singh se kahe ki keemte kam kariye (Whichever way Rahul Gandhi wants to live in huts of poor people, he can...but before that he should tell his mother and Manmohan Singh to bring down prices)," BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said.

He was replying to a question on whether Rahul Gandhi spending a night in a Dalit household in Shravasti district of Uttar Pradesh was a genuine gesture or aimed at seeking publicity.

Prasad said BJP is planning to take on the UPA government for increase in prices of essential commodities.

Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar had said on Thursday that rice prices may increase further due to expected low yield of paddy. Sugar prices may increase too, he had added.

Price rise will be one of the prime issues for BJP during the election campaign in Maharashtra, Haryana and Arunachal Pradesh.

Rahul Gandhi has ruffled many feathers in Mayawati-led BSP and BJP by spending time with Dalit families in the past.
