The Congress on Wednesday didn't rule out the possibility of Rahul Gandhi's anointment as the working president to assist his mother, party chief Sonia Gandhi, in the near future. Terming the subject as an "internal matter" of the party, spokesperson Rashid Alvi said "if any decision is taken, you will come to know."
It is believed that an announcement in this regard may come on November 19 (late PM Indira Gandhi's birthday).
After Gandhi went abroad for a surgery, speculation was rife in the party circle that
Rahul would be given additional responsibilities. At present, he is a general secretary handling the youth affairs and student's wings.
While Rahul has denied on various occasions the possibility of his becoming a minister, the Congress has not set to rest the speculations of his possible promotion in party hierarchy.
"The internal matters of the party are not discussed with media," Alvi told reporters when asked about such possibilities.
