Overnight rain in the city brought the mercury down on Sunday and the maximum temperature was recorded as 36.7 degrees Celsius, four degrees below normal.

The minimum temperature was recorded as 24 degrees Celsius, three degrees below normal.

Safdar jung observatory received 0.4 mm rainfall till 8.30am, while Palam, Ridge and Aaya Nagar recorded 3.2mm, 0.4mm and 3mm rainfall, respectively. The Safdarjung observatory’s readings are considered official for the city.

Humidity oscillated between 79% and 43%.

According to the weatherman, Delhi will see a thunderstorm and a squall on Monday as well.

The sky will be partly cloudy on Monday. A dust storm and a thunderstorm, accompanied by a squall, are likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperature are likely to hover between 37 and 26 degrees Celsius,” said a Met official.

In Delhi, usually, the last week of May is the hottest time of the summer. This summer, however, has been different.

The temperature at Safdarjung hit a high of 44 degrees Celsius on May 2 this year. That was the hottest so far.

Last year, the temperature touched 45.5 degrees Celsius on May 25. It was the hottest of the summer of 2015.

According to the weatherman, the city has been witnessing light rain and dust storms continuously for the past week. This has brought down temperatures in the city.

“Rain in the hills of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand have had an impact on the temperatures in Delhi. The coming two days are also expected to see light rain, but the end of the week will see temperatures soar again,” said a Met official.
