Dilshad Ahmed alias Rajkumar — the 22-year-old taxi driver accused of abducting and sexually abusing the 14-year-old who allegedly vent her frustration on the two-year-old — had wished to raise the baby as his daughter, police said.
But he kept his wife in the dark and after getting hold of the baby from his friend Manoj, he gave her to the 14-year-old girl who was in a relationship with him.
But little did he realise the 14-year-old would not be able to bear the burden of bringing up a toddler and would, in fact, end up assaulting her physically, a senior investigating officer said.
“During investigation, we learnt that Rajkumar had adopted the baby from his friend Manoj who drove Rajkumar’s taxi. Manoj had taken the baby from Laxmi because he had nurtured the same wish. But since his source of income was limited, he decided to give the baby to Rajkumar,” said the investigating officer.
Investigators claimed the baby belonged to one Munni, a domestic help who abandoned her at Laxmi’s house in Mohan Garden of west Delhi after staying there for 20 days.
The police traced Munni to a town in Bihar and were likely to bring her to Delhi by Wednesday evening, sources said.
Asked about Rajkumar, the investigating officer said he worked as an agent for some hotels located near the IGI airport.
“He owns two vehicles which he purchased on loan. Initially, he lived with his sister in Mumbai and worked there as a taxi driver. He married a girl from his sister’s neighbourhood and then moved to Delhi a couple of years back,” the officer said.
Rajkumar came in contact with the 14-year-old girl at a woman’s house in Munirka where she was staying after leaving her father’s house in Sangam Vihar. The police were trying to trace the mysterious woman, Manoj and Rajkumar.
