Ramp at Kashmere Gate to help reduce traffic congestion on Ring Road
Officials said the ramp will cater to the traffic coming to Kashmere Gate from Mukarba Chowk. especially the inter-state buses.
The Public Works Department (PWD) of Delhi government is planning to build a ramp outside Kashmere Gate ISBT, in order to smoothen traffic flow outside the inter-state bus terminal on the Ring Road.
Officials said the ramp will cater to the traffic coming to Kashmiri Gate from Mukarba Chowk. especially the inter-state buses.
Currently, buses coming to ISBT from North Delhi’s Burari, Majnu-ka-Tilla, take U-turn at ground level before turning left into the terminal, causing huge traffic during morning and evening hours.
Huge traffic jams occur frequently on Ring Road between ISBT Kashmiri Gate and Hanuman Mandir during morning and evening peak hours as traffic.
The new ramp, officials said, will merge into the existing elevated road that descends in front the bus terminal. After construction of the new ramp, buses coming to ISBT will directly enter in the bus terminal, thus smoothening the traffic.
“PWD has decided to appoint a consultant to make structural design of proposed up-ramp at ISBT Kashmiri Gate. Once the up-ramp is constructed, it will reduce traffic congestion near Kashmiri Gate and Nigam Bodh Ghat,” said a senior government official.
