The Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) has decided to launch a drive to identify problem areas and plug loopholes. It has regularly been getting complaints regarding the poor behaviour of bus crew, rash driving, over speeding, poor maintenance of buses and non-functioning of air-conditioning systems in buses.

Starting Thursday, senior officers of the public bus system will go out and perform random checks on the condition of buses and performance of drivers and conductors.

A DTC spokesperson said that teams had been constituted to carry out the surprise checks.

"Based on the feedback we have been getting, our special squads will check buses, the driver and conductor on 28 different parameters. Any irregularities will immediately be communicated to top DTC officials for penal action," a DTC official said.

The special drive has been launched to ensure the crew follows rules and regulations and the maintenance staff does out its job sincerely.

The special teams will perform the check for two hours in the morning - from 8am to 10am - and two hours in the evening between 5pm and 7pm. It will continue till February 29.
