The dean of examination of AIIMS, RC Deka, is likely to be the new director of the country's premier health institute.
Deka's name is understood to have been finalised at a meeting of the high-powered institute body on Monday after a special committee set up to select a new director for AIIMS submitted a shortlisted list of candidates for the post.
Sources said Deka's name will now be forwarded to the Prime Minister's office by Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss.
After the meeting, Union Health Secretary Naresh Dayal said the selection or search committee considering the applications for the post of director will not meet again, clearly indicating that the list of shortlisted candidates had been submitted to the governing body.
"The search committee has done its job and will not hold any further meeting," he said, adding that other details will be announced after the next meeting of the institute body.
The search for a new AIIMS Director began with the retirement of former head P Venugopal in July this year.
The body also approved the last month's governing body decision on a 200-point roster based reservation superceding the earlier system of floating reservation, the Health Secretary said.
Besides, it also permitted to amend AIIMS Regulation 30 to increase the age of superannuation of employees from 62 to 65, Dayal said.
