Miffed by the BJP’s refusal to give them tickets, 25 rebel candidates managed to wrest votes and in some cases even spoil the show for some party candidates.

The ‘joint effort’ led to the defeat of candidates in some of the traditional seats belonging to BJP such as Sangam Vihar, Lajpat Nagar, Andrews Ganj and RK Puram. The party had been successfully winning the Andrews Ganj seat for the past four decades but lost this time. Among those who contested against BJP as independents, six candidates won Sagarpur, Naraina, Palam, Mahipalpur, Tri Nagar and Vijay Vihar seats.

BJP rebel and chairman of MCD works committee Jagdish Mamgain, whose ward Kasturba Nagar witnessed loss, said wrong selection of candidates led to the loss.
