Repair work to hit water supply in northwest Delhi

Water supply would be affected from Monday evening due to repair work of water leakages in the 800 mm diameter water main pipeline at Sainik Vihar in northwest Delhi.
The areas affected would include Saraswati Vihar, Deepali, Pushpanjali, Tarun Enclave, West Enclave, Sainik Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Lawrence Road and Tri Nagar, a release from the DJB said.
Meantime, residents of south Delhi areas, specially Vasant Kunj and other areas in its vicinity, faced severe water shortage from Friday evening through Saturday following the Delhi Jal Board's (DJB) works at its Ghitorni unit.
The supply was affected as the city's water utility took up the routine maintenance and repair work at its unit at Ghirtorni in south Delhi.
"I think this was an unannounced water supply cut. It was only in the morning that we discovered that there would be no water supply. When I asked, the DJB people too were not aware when exactly would the water be available," said Shilpa Sorti, a resident of pocket D/8 in Vasant Kunj.
Said a DJB official, "This was a planned shut down and it was duly announced. (Now) even when the work is over, it takes a little time for water to flow into the entire system again."
