Dhaynswaroop Rastogi (62) sat outside the Pandav Nagar police station in east Delhi with the dead body of his son while his friends and relatives shouted slogans.

A stoic Rastogi refuses to accept the fact that his younger son Sunil (28) — who got married only three months ago — would be gunned down right outside their shop.

Sunil fell to bullets of armed bikers outside their jewellery shop in the crowded Shashi Garden market in east Delhi on Wednesday evening.

He was shot when he resisted their attempt to rob jewellery worth Rs 60 lakh.

Rastogi’s elder son Anil, who was also injured, is admitted in a nursing home.

“He tried to fight the robbers, Had he let go of the pouch containing the jewellery, he would have been alive,” said Rastogi.

On Thursday, angry relatives, friends and traders of Shashi Garden market protested at the Pandav Nagar police station for two-and-a -half hours.

After the post-mortem, police handed over Sunil’s body to the family. As a mark of protest the family and friends marched to the Pandav Nagar police station and demanded action against the robbers. The market was shut in protest.

Relatives put the dead body on the police jeep and gheraoed the police station in protest.

Residents alleged that thefts were quite common in the area.

Police said they were trying to catch the accused with the help of the information gathered by the eyewitnesses.
