RJD: Speaker's anger is justified

delhi Updated: Feb 21, 2009 08:41 IST

Reacting to Lok Sabha Speaker's strong reprimand to MPs for their behaviour on Thursday, key UPA ally RJD on Friday said that the Speaker's anger is justified.

"Somnath Da is the guardian of the house. Speaker is like a guardian. He is pained. He wants that the house runs in the proper manner. Members should also react in a guarded manner," RJD supremo Lalu Prasad told reporters outside Parliament here.

Party's vice president and Union Minister Raghuvansh Prasad Singh said, "The Speaker's anger is justified. He faces difficulty in conducting the affairs in the House due to frequent obstructions and hence it is only natural for him to get angry."

Earlier, Rajya Sabha MP from BJP and former Vice-Chairman of Rajya Sabha Najma Heptullah criticised the Speaker's strong reprimand saying "presiding officer's role in the House is like a referee in the match and not as a player".

"You do not deserve one paisa of public money," an angry Speaker Somnath Chatterjee had said yesterday as members of several political parties stormed the Well of Lok Sabha raising a spate of issues and disrupted Question Hour.
