It was a combination of heavy traffic, bad driving and flared tempers that got a restaurant manager killed at the posh Khan Market in the Capital around 1.40pm on Tuesday.
Rajiv Jolly Wilson, a manager at Italian restaurant Amici, was allegedly run over by a Jet Airways pilot, Vikas Aggarwal, 37.
However, the police claimed that the 41-year-old victim’s death was accidental.
According to the police, Wilson was on his way to work when the incident took place in Ravinder lane, opposite Subramanium Bharti Marg.
"Aggarwal, driving a Ford Ikon car, accidentally nicked Wilson’s Hyundai I-10 from behind. He tried to drive away after Wilson stepped out of his car and allegedly slapped him twice,” said KC Dwivedi, additional commissioner of police, New Delhi.
"Initial investigations revealed that Wilson’s leg got caught in the rear wheel of the accused’s car when the latter turned right to drive away. Wilson first hit his head on the footpath and then got crushed by Aggarwal’s car,” said VA Gupta, additional deputy commissioner of police, New Delhi.
"Prima facie it appears the victim was killed unintentionally. Aggarwal tried to speed away and in the process accidentally killed Wilson,” he added.
Aggarwal has been taken into custody and booked for rash driving and causing death due to negligence.
