Four unidentified robbers, posing as courier boys, struck at the house of a 68-year-old woman, held her and her maid hostage at gunpoint and decamped with cash and jewellery worth around Rs. 1 lakh in northwest Delhi's Ashok Vihar on Wednesday afternoon.

According to police, the incident was reported from B block in Ashok Vihar's Phase 1 where the elderly woman, identified as Rama Devi, lives with her son and his family.

The family members of the victim told police that the robbers even tried to kill her. But they could not succeed in their plan and had to leave the house after one of them sustained injuries while breaking the glass of an almirah.

Police have registered a case in connection.

A senior police officer said Rama was on the ground floor of her house when someone rang the doorbell. The person outside the door claimed he had come to deliver a courier.

"As soon as the woman opened the door, the robber pushed her inside and overpowered her. In the meantime, his three associates entered the house and one of them pointed a revolver on her. They overpowered the maid when she saw her employer in their custody and came to rescue her," said the officer.
