A 75-year-old senior citizen was allegedly robbed of Rs 2.15 lakh at Laxmi Nagar in east Delhi on Monday. The incident occurred around 10.15 am when the victim, Virendra Nath Gupta, was alone in his office in Lalita Park.

“The office is generally closed on Monday but Gupta had to deposit some cash and so he opened his office and also called one of his employees,” said a police officer.

The money was kept in a bag on the table, as Gupta was about to go to a bank to deposit it.

The police said three people in the age group of 22-25 entered his office and asked him about an address.

As soon as he reached out for the address, which was written on a piece of paper, they threw chilly powder in his eyes and fled with the bag.

The police have filed a case of robbery. “We have a few leads,” said a police officer.

Nand Nagri

At Nand Nagri in northeast, two motorcycle-borne assailants robbed a Ghaziabad resident who had come to the city to withdraw cash on Monday afternoon. Desh Raj, a resident of Vijay Nagar in Ghaziabad, is a clerk with the Ghaziabad Development Authority.

“Desh Raj withdrew Rs 5 lakh from Central Bank on Loni Road. He kept it in a polythene bag and placed it in his scooter’s boot. The two robbers followed him till his relative’s residence,” said a senior police officer.

As soon as Desh Raj took out the money, the duo tried to snatch the bag. In the scuffle, the polythene bag tore open and Rs 1.5 lakh fell out and the robbers fled with Rs.3.5 lakh.

Gandhi Nagar

On Sunday night, unknown assailants stabbed businessman Mohammed Sadiq (45) and snatched Rs.2.5 lakh from him on Pushta Road.
